Located at the intersection of Route 30 and 190, the West Stafford Church combines small-town New England architecture and friendliness with a modern search for Christian meaning in worship, education and mission. Congregationalist by tradition and polity, affiliated with the United Church of Christ, the West Stafford Church ministers to the entire community. Second Congregational Church is an active and friendly congregation of about 50 members. We have a Sunday School.
This church acknowledges Jesus Christ as its head, and finds in the Holy Scriptures guidance in its faith, life and work as a church. It is a voluntary fellowship whose members exercise the privilege and responsibility of control of its affairs. Second Congregational is a member of the United Church of Christ and has active participation in the Tolland Association of the United Church of Christ and in the Southern New England Conference of the United Church of Christ, and in fellowship with all churches, through one Holy Spirit.
We believe in God, the Eternal Spirit, who is made known to us in Jesus our Brother, and to whose deeds we testify: God calls the worlds into being, creates humankind in the divine image, and sets before us the ways of life and death. God seeks in holy love to save all people from aimlessness and sin. God judges all humanity and all nations by that will of righteousness declared through prophets and apostles. In Jesus Christ, the man of Nazareth, our crucified and risen Lord, God has come to us and shared our common lot, conquering sin and death and reconciling the whole creation to its creator. God bestows upon us the Holy Spirit, creating and renewing the church of Jesus Christ, binding in covenant faithful people of all ages, tongues and races.
